Overview
The Main Villa is raised high off the ground on soaring columns. It is reached by walking through a delightful small garden and then crossing a magical suspension bridge to an entry deck.
Inside is a large open plan space (5.5m x 9m) encompassing Living, Dining and Kitchen Areas as well as a walk-in Pantry and a Powder Room. Designed to make the most of indoor/outdoor living, there are very few walls and instead, large glass windows and doors that open to catch the breezes. With views on all four sides of the building, the feeling inside is of being in a tree house.
The high vaulted ceiling, ventilation louvers in some of the exterior walls and open windows and doors provide a surprisingly cool interior environment which can be supplemented by ceiling fans.
Bedroom / Bathroom Details
Master Bedroom
An outside cantilevered staircase with spectacular sea views leads down to a covered deck, the Master Bedroom, the Master Bathroom and the Laundry Room.
The Master Bedroom is spacious (5m x 6m) and also has a large walk-in wardrobe area with plenty of storage space and a safe for personal belongings. From the luxuriously made up king size bed, the large teak desk and the sitting area, the same superb views are enjoyed.
There is a large, flat-screen HD tv and dvd player along with an extensive selection of dvds. Windows at this level are fitted with mosquito screens to give several options for air comfort: by breezes from open windows, from fans or by air-conditioner with closed windows.
Master Bathroom
The ample Master Bathroom is finished with polished and unpolished terrazzo as well as lovely crackle tiles. There is a shower with a view, an attractive ceramic sink on top of the extra wide counter and giant hinged windows that open out to the same splendid vista.
Lower Villa
The Lower Villa embodies the word retreat. It is hidden to all but those at the Main Villa and reached only by steep steps that wind down through a magical tropical garden.
The Second Bedroom is a large and airy room (5m x 6m) with a high vaulted ceiling that is furnished with: two twin beds, good lighting for reading, a large built in wardrobe, a substantial built in desk, bean bag chairs, electric kettle and a small refrigerator.
One unusual feature is the small boulder that juts out of the hard wood floor from the land below. There are mosquito nets on all windows and doors to offer options for air comfort: natural breeze, ceiling fan or air-conditioner. Oversize sliding glass doors open out to a narrow deck and a wonderful view of the sea seen through a maze of coconut palms and other tropical trees.
Lower Villa Bathroom
The spectacular Outside Bathroom and garden area are situated at the base of an enormous boulder and under the leafy canopy of a giant ficus tree with massive exposed roots.
An extra-large terrazzo bathtub and a glorious shower provide the indescribable pleasure of bathing outside in nature. Because of the remote location and difficulty of the terrain, there is no need to worry about being seen. Under the sink is another water filter that gives drinking water.
Living Area
Living & Dining Area
The Living Area looks out at the fantastic view and is furnished with: a comfortable and large corner sofa, easy chair, teak side tables with good lighting for reading, stereo system, overhead fan and an elegant teak cabinet filled with books, binoculars, games and music cds.
The substantial teak dining table seats four comfortably. In order to make the most of the magnificent view, it is positioned right next to an enormous window. However, the table can be moved to accommodate more people.
Kitchen
The Kitchen is well equipped with: gas stove and oven, full size fridge/freezer, microwave, plentiful granite counter space, water filter that provides drinking water, electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster, juicer, etc; as well as lots of cups, plates, cutlery, pots and pans, cooking utensils, etc. The kitchen island is a great place to work from while enjoying fabulous views to the sea beyond.
Villa Decor
The villas at Sukhavati Retreat are decorated keeping the ideas of comfort, simplicity, practicality, luxury and beauty in mind. Most of the furniture is of a lovely solid teak wood. There is good lighting in every room and plenty of electrical outlets. Beautiful bamboo blinds are found at the windows. Thai rose-wood was used for most of the floors, decks, windows, doors, roof beams, etc
Polished and unpolished terrazzo were used as floor surfaces in the bathrooms and at the terrace there are nice detail pieces such as art from a Samui based artist, brass door handles from Nepal and a glass wash basin.
Beach Access
The local beach is a 5 minute drive and easily accessed.
