Description
The Lake House is located near Galle in southern Sri Lanka is one of the prettiest and most popular destinations in Sri Lanka. The pace of life is different, the food is good and the people are delightful. The coast is relatively unspoiled and Galle Fort has been carefully protected to maintain its historic buildings and atmosphere. For those interested in wildlife, Yala national park is not too far away with plenty of game: elephant and leopard in particular. But, even if you just stay at the Lake House, all manner of wildlife will cross your path from giant porcupine to monitor lizards, and the monkeys swing through the trees next to the house.
The Lake House is fully staffed with a great cook - who will cook Sri Lankan or European food - three house boys, night security, tuk tuk driver and gardener.
Bedrooms
There are 4 double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, 3 of which have outdoor showers. A further twin bedded room with en suite bathroom is available on request. There is a very large open plan dining, sitting and games area which overlooks the pool and the lake. The swimming pool is ideal for exercise and leisure and has an area for sitting and sunbathing around it. There is a massage room and table tennis. Tuk tuks can be easily hired and a car and driver can also be rented, either for the whole stay or for individual excursions.
There is a Bose music system - you can plug in your ipod or your computer. The house has Wi-Fi throughout.
The house will accommodate 2 or 8 people: either feels entirely comfortable. Sometimes we can accommodate 10. A further twin bedded room with en suite bathroom can also be available on request. The spacious sitting room and dining room is open with views over the swimming pool and lake beyond.
The Lake House is a contemporary home built using Sri Lankan craftsmen and materials. It has been designed to be as energy efficient and low-impact as possible and uses the natural breeze from the sea and lake to cool the house, supplemented with ceiling fans, rather than air conditioning. THIS WORKS! Water is heated using solar power - and so is some of the outdoor lighting.
Food
The rates include a breakfast of fruit, toast, eggs, tea and coffee.
The house comes with an excellent cook who will prepare European or Sri Lankan dishes at your request. We do not charge a menu price for food but, instead, you simply pay the cost of the ingredients - our cook will give you the receipts. As a general guide, however, the cost varies between $5 (e.g. light lunch dish) and $15 per person for a main course (e.g.for crab or prawns) and $2-$4 for a starter or pudding. There is a menu of things to choose from (with prices) and, if you would prefer to have an alternative, our cook will let you know the approximate cost in advance.
