Description
Koggala House has a central living area and four bedrooms, all constructed as connected but separate buildings. Built with the local Dutch colonial style in mind – rows of columns, high ceilings, cooling fans and terra cotta floors – the owner has added a contemporary touch with the fittings and furniture to keep it relevant.
The bedrooms each have a modern ensuite bathroom, ample storage space, are fully air-conditioned with mosquito nets and fans over the bed, casual soft seating, a computer desk, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a mini-bar. Two rooms also have an old fashioned bathtub and a sofa bed for an extra guest or for children. One bedroom has an outdoor shower and its own private walled garden for added privacy. Each bedroom has a shady, spacious indoor/outdoor verandah with casual seating to enjoy the morning birdsong, read a book, meditate or relax and watch the evening sunset. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and there is satellite TV in the living room for those who need to keep up with world affairs, watch the latest sporting fixture or simply sit and be entertained.
The main house consists of a large living room with high exposed timber ceilings and terrazzo floors, and a modern, well-appointed kitchen, bathroom, laundry and office. The swimming pool has an infinity edge overlooking the lake and there is a shallow “wallowing” pool for those who want to escape the heat of the day - or night.
Lunch and dinner are available from the a-la-carte menu. The menu changes daily so there is always something new. Mahesh, the house chef, has many years of international experience and he is assisted by Chamara who doubles as a house-keeper and Freddy who manages the garden and pool. Sugath looks after security. Laundry services are available upon request.
The garden is full of squirrels and birds of all types and occasionally porcupines and monitor lizards will pass through. The local family of endangered Purple-faced Leaf Monkeys (aka Purple-faced Langur - Trachypithecus vetulus) pay a visit most days and the blue peacocks are always making themselves heard. Yoga classes, massage services and Ayurvedic medicine can be arranged in-house or in a neighbouring property.
